Snow Globe

A single, clear plastic lab cuvette stands upright against a dark, textured gray background. The vial is filled with a cloudy, translucent liquid that has a slightly shimmering or grainy appearance, as if tiny particles are suspended throughout. The cuvette is capped with a white square lid, and the lighting is soft, creating subtle reflections on the smooth sides of the container.

Description
Pictured is a cuvette containing zirconium oxide (ZrO2) suspended in acetonitrile. In the Hanson lab, nanocrystalline ZrO2 is used as a substrate for the construction of surface-bound molecular assemblies. The unique properties of ZrO2 allow us to investigate the surface chemistry of these assemblies using spectroscopic methods.
