Description
This image shows a histological section of sperm packets in a deep-sea coral polyp. Deep-sea corals form important and complex ecosystems on the seafloor, yet many people don’t know they exist. While this coral contains thousands of the dark purple sperm cells, only a few sperm cells, if any, will manage to successfully find an egg cell in the wide deep ocean and survive to adulthood.
