Description
This is a photo of my study species, the Trinidadian guppy (Poecilia reticulata). Males exhibit striking variation in their color patterns. Evidence suggests this high level of variation is driven by females preferring males with rare color patterns. Males with rare patterns have also been found to evade predation because predators do not have a search image for them. You heard it here folks, it’s better to be unique!
