- Description
- GBPs (guanylate binding proteins, colored in yellow) act as one of the key effectors of the human immune system when there is bacterial, viral or protozoan attack. GBPs are known to localize to cellular membranes and have a variety of antimicrobial actions, including disrupting pathogen-containing vacuoles, limiting pathogen multiplication, increasing pathogen degradation, and causing apoptosis in infected cells. In addition, they have diverse functional significance in various cellular processes besides immunity, such as cell proliferation, motility, and vesicle trafficking. They also play vital roles in inflammatory reactions and several autoimmune disorders.
