Description

This piece presents a coronal section of the rat brain overlaid with patterns of neuronal activation. The dark punctate signals represent c-Fos immunoreactivity, a well-established marker of recent neuronal activity, capturing a snapshot of functional engagement across distributed brain regions.

Prominent c-Fos expression is observed in hypothalamic nuclei, including the lateral hypothalamic area, which is implicated in feeding and reward integration, as well as in thalamic and limbic structures that contribute to sensory processing and emotional regulation. These activation patterns illustrate that feeding behavior is not governed by a single region, but instead emerges from coordinated activity across anatomically and functionally distinct neural systems.

The image was acquired using a Keyence microscope at 10x magnification, preserving both regional anatomical context and cellular-level resolution. By integrating structural mapping with functional activation, this work highlights how pharmacological signals propagate through interconnected neural networks.
